Page Overview: Diesel engine development

We shape the future.

DIESEL ENGINE DEVELOPMENT.

Development of new diesel engine technologies is one of the main areas of activity at the plant, alongside production of petrol and diesel engines. Since opening in 1980, the Diesel Engine Development Centre in Steyr has successfully established itself as the centre of competence for the whole Group. Today, all BMW Group diesel engines are developed at the Steyr location. New, dynamic and increasingly environmentally-friendly engines are created under state-of-the-art conditions and the current engine range continuously improved.

EfficientDynamics.

With the new BMW diesel engine generation, Steyr can point to numerous development achievements. As well as improving exhaust emissions, the main development goals are smooth running, comfort, engine dynamics and fuel economy. By combining and refining these technologies, continuous improvements can be made in emissions, fuel consumption and driving performance. Diesel drive technology is an important component of BMW EfficientDynamics, the unique technology system for greater agility, with lower fuel consumption and emissions.
